Admissions to Cloughside College

Students are admitted to Cloughside College through different referral routes, depending on the provision they are accessing.

For our hospital-based provision, students are admitted following referral through Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). Cloughside College is a hospital school, which means admissions to our hospital sites are linked to admission to the relevant CAMHS unit. Parents and carers cannot apply directly for a hospital school place.

To attend our hospital provision, students must be a patient on one of the CAMHS units we serve. These include Junction 17, the Gardener Unit, and Hope and Horizon wards at Fairfield General Hospital.

For Aspire & Achieve Hub, all referrals and placement decisions are made through the Section 19 Panel, which meets fortnightly. The Hub supports young people who are not currently able to access school successfully and who require a personalised education pathway agreed through the Local Authority process.

Starting at Cloughside College

On entry to Cloughside College, all learners will meet with a senior member of staff or another appropriate member of the team. This meeting will help us to understand the young person’s needs and plan their education carefully.

During this initial meeting, staff will:

  • carry out an initial interview to gather important information, such as current or previous school, favourite subjects, interests and strengths
  • explain key details about Cloughside College, including timetable, pastoral group and key staff
  • provide a tour of the provision, where appropriate
  • discuss college expectations, routines and procedures
  • give the young person an opportunity to ask questions

Your child will be treated with respect and care at all times. They will be a valued member of the Cloughside College community.

Parents and carers are encouraged to contact Cloughside College if they have any questions. You can telephone us on 0161 271 0106 or use our enquiry form on our contacts page.
